Sand Dunes -
Llobregat Delta Nature Reserve
The Llobregat Delta dunes provide an
excellent example of zonation and succession. The distribution and abundance of
plants is measured by means of line transects, using frame quadrats. The
patterns of plant distribution can be related to a range of abiotic variables,
microclimatic and edaphic. Wind speed, temperature and infiltration are measured
on site, soil ph, moisture and organic matter are analysed in the classroom. The
abrupt changes in vegetation density and variety across the dunes provide a
challenging problem for students to solve.
