Malawi Field Visit 2025
Over the past fifteen years Barcelona Field Studies Centre has developed an exciting and unique fieldwork programme in the Zomba region of Malawi. The programme is planned for geography students and teachers and those involved in school community and service projects.
As a result, we are offering a 10 day field study itinerary for 2025 with UK departure on 26 July 2025. The departure date may be changed to meet the requirements of the group.
The former colonial capital of Zomba forms the accommodation base and main working location. Field studies include the development of an urban land use model for Zomba and an investigation of Zomba town planning and management issues. Guided visits are made to a United Nations Millennium Development Village, a safari lodge in Liwonde National Park, and a local school and orphanage.
We are working with the active support of Zomba City Council, University of Malawi (Chancellor College), and Orbis DMC (previously known as the Responsible Safari Company), based in Blantyre, Malawi.
The cost of £1,700 per person excludes travel insurance and flights. Purchasing your own flights to and from Blantyre allows you a choice of routes and airlines plus the option of extending your stay if you wish.
Detailed risk assessments are provided for all aspects of the planned activities.
