Priorat: relationships between place of birth and place of residence

La Bisbal Falset has the distinction of being the Priorat town where the most inhabitants were born and still live in the same town (70.2%). In contrast, only 17.6% of the current residents of La Morera de Montsant were born in the town.

La Torre de Fontaubella is the Priorat town with the most inhabitants born in the rest of the province of Tarragona, (60.2%), with just 24.1% of residents born in the town. Only Cornudella de Montsant and La Morera de Montsant have similar trends, although the percentages are not so high as La Torre.

The population with the highest percentage of people born in the rest of Catalonia is La Morera de Montsant (26.4%), followed by Torroja del Priorat with 24.6%. La Morera is unique in the Priorat region, since it is the only settlement that has a higher percentage of residents born in the rest of Catalonia than in the town itself.

Bellmunt del Priorat is the town where most residents were born in the rest of Spain (excluding Catalonia), with 14.2%, and the town with least born in the rest of Spain is La Bisbal de Falset with 4.0%.

La Morera de Montsant has the highest percentage of residents born abroad, (11.5%), followed by La Vilella Baixa (6.8%), El Lloar (5.3%), Marçà (4.9%), Falset (4.7%) and Cornudella de Montsant (4.4%). Els Guiamets is the only Priorat town with no foreign residents. Ulldemolins, La Vilella Alta, Bellmunt del Priorat, Poboleda and Cabassers all have less than 1% foreign residents.

Relationship between place of birth and economic development in Priorat

A number of relationships between place of birth and economic development may be explored from the above data, including the positive correlation between the percentage born in the rest of Spain and the number of wine cellars found in each Priorat town. This is illustrated in the scattergraph below.
