To try and ensure that quality is maintained, innovations
continue, and wines stay ahead of the competition, a Science and Technology Park
specialising in wine research and development is being constructed in Falset,
the heart of the Priorat wine growing area. Based on the successful Australian
wine research and development model, the Park is promoted by Rovira i Virgili
University, Falset Town Council and the Catalan government. It is intended as an
international reference point in the innovation of the oenological sector across
the academic, professional and institutional world.
The Priorat Science Park of Wine Technology will be the first
of its kind in Europe and aims to develop techniques to improve the quality of
wine and train students at the school of oenology in Falset and at Rovira i
Virgili University.
