Joan Miró Foundation
The Joan Miró Foundation was created by Joan Miró, with donations from his own private collection. His aim was to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research. The collection provides insight into his work.
'Espai 13' is an exhibition hall within the Foundation for young artists or artists working in fields not provided for elsewhere. Today, space is intended for artists who, despite being recognized in their own countries, are not well known in Spain.
The Fundation is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which art and architecture are combined in mutual support.
