Map Cross Section Maker using Distance and Height Data
Create a cross section using distance and height data. Download an image of your cross section and print the data calculations used to construct and analyse it.
This tool has many geographical uses, including quickly creating cross sections of valleys, mountain ranges and ice sheets.
The X and Y axes have separate auto-fit scales, allowing kilometres (or miles, metres, feet) for the X axis and metres (or feet, kilometres, miles) for the Y. Scale ranges can be customised as required.
The 'Customise' button opens options to change the cross section title, change scales and titles for the X and Y axes, and change the fill, line and background colours.
Enter your cross section distances and height data in the calculator below. Select the type of cross section required (smooth or straight lines) and click the 'Calculate' button to calculate your data. The 'Open Cross Section' button will open your cross section in a new window. A menu appears above the cross section offering several options, including downloading an image. Hover over the image to display the data.
